How to prepare for a job interview?

What should you do in advance of the interview? What should you concentrate on? We answered these questions in our previous article LINK. It is critical to prepare ourselves for the interview process, as it will allow us to present ourselves more efficiently. First impressions are crucial, so why not take a moment to prepare sample answers that will guide you?

The most common interview questions

Typically, the first meeting with a recruiter is to get to know each other and present the offer with the job description. It could, but not necessarily, be decisive. You probably know most of these questions from your previous experience, but that does not mean you should not prepare!

Most of the time, they are looking for someone with the right mindset, character traits, and experience.

Job interview questions about you

Each tech recruiter is focused on getting to know you, so the first interview usually does not include concerns about technical matters. What kinds of insightful interview questions should you be prepared for? Here’s a list of popular interview questions:

  • What drew you to the offer and compelled you to apply?
  • Why do you want to leave your current job?
  • Why do you believe you are the best candidate for this position?
  • What, in your opinion, is the most important aspect of XYZ’s role?
  • What do you anticipate from the employer in terms of long-term collaboration?
  • Have you worked in the XYZ industry?
  • What motivates you?
  • What qualities do you seek in a new project?
  • Has the pandemic altered your working methods in any way?

The company wants to know the candidate’s answers to predict if they match with their ideal candidate persona. Even though each recruiter wants to ask unique interview questions, some are unavoidable to provide a quality evaluation.

Common job interview questions about the position, current job, and company culture

By submitting your CV to the company, you provide important information about your experience. This does not, however, mean that you will not be questioned about them. Recruiters want to know about your previous job from your point of view. Prepare for the following topics:

  • Your approach to junior developers
  • Your approach to technology
  • Teamwork interview questions
  • A sense of superiority
  • Company culture
  • Leadership interview questions
  • Job performance questions
  • Situational interview questions

Oh! Do not be afraid when answering salary questions. Keep your chin up and remember that there is no wrong answer.

Technical questions about the job

A technical interview usually lasts longer than one hour. Remember to maintain the proper conditions around you (our checklist). A technical interview is frequently conducted by up to two people, the tech lead and sometimes the hiring manager. This is an excellent opportunity to get to know the team.

Typically, this interview begins with a discussion of the candidate’s most interesting projects. They usually ask detailed questions about the team’s structure (roles and responsibilities), previous collaboration with the client and product owner, methodology, and process.

The name of this stage implies a task. If this is the case, you should be aware of it ahead of time. It can also be done in a conversational model, which requires no additional effort after hours.

What is worth remembering during an IT interview?

It is also a conversation between you and the recruiter. It works both ways—they also should pass your recruitment process as you want to find a perfect job opportunity. Keep an eye out for any red flags. Make a list of follow-up questions you want to ask to better understand the situation. You can check out our ideas here. In this way, you will have your job interviews nailed.
